The weekend is almost here! So I figured I would share the trusty productive weekend routine that helps keep me organized for the future week!
I wear wayyyy too many hats in my day-to-day life: mom, wife, cook, housekeeper, construction worker, entrepreneur, chauffeur, bookkeeper, blogger… For me to do all of this, I must stay organized.
Friday Nights
Friday nights are my nights. I usually finish the week off with a hot bath and a glass of wine. This is so important to do. MAKE YOURSELF A PRIORITY! You finished off the week and you deserve everyone to leave you alone and relax.
Saturdays
My productive weekend routine begins on Saturday, and Saturdays are for cleaning. I throw on some music and get to work.
- Throw the bedding in the laundry
- Wash work clothes
- Clean the bathrooms
- Wash the floors
- Wipe down baseboards
- Dust
- Wipe down kitchen cabinets
- Clean out the fridges
As well as whatever else I find to tidy up. I obviously clean throughout the week so this isn’t as crazy as it sounds. It’s just more of a deeper clean than I would usually do. It honestly usually only takes me a couple of hours in the morning to complete.
Saturday afternoon I do a bit of paperwork for the company. I put in my invoicing for the week, enter the weekly receipts, and fill in our employee’s weekly time sheets.
Sundays
Sundays are my day of organization.
Planner:
First I go through my planner and enter any appointments or meetings I have. Write down my personal to-do list as well as my work to-do list. I use a passion planner to keep me focused. I have used these planners for about 4 years now and HIGHLY recommend them.
Groceries:
Now it’s time to write out my meal plan for the week and start my grocery list. After I’ve done a quick inventory of the groceries we already have, I head to the grocery store.
Side note: I have a room in the basement where we keep our deep freeze, any overages from bulk shopping (I shop at Costco regularly, and you can read about that here), and our extra paper products/cleaning products. I also have 2 fridges, one for normal food, and then a mini fridge I keep everything for work/school lunches in.
Clean Car/Fill up on gas:
On the way to the grocery store, I swing by the gas station and fill my tank up and empty my garbage cans. Depending on my mood I may go through the car wash or vacuum the car out as well. See my full tips on organizing my car here.
Meal Prep:
Every family has a way of meal prepping that works for them. My family does not do well with pre-made dinners. We pre-make lunches though. So once I get home with the groceries and everything is put away, I pre-make sandwiches and wraps. We find this easier as in the morning everyone can just grab what they want and go. More tips for my lunch ideas can be found here.
Restock the house:
As I mentioned before, we keep our overstock of paper products and cleaning products downstairs. In my linen closet I have a bin for toilet paper to be stored, and another bin for paper towels and napkins. So I will refill those bins and bring up dishwasher detergent or any cleaning products that we are running low on. I will also fill up the washing machine tablets and dryer sheets in the laundry room.
Clean out my purse, wallet, and work bag:
I like to make sure I don’t have random receipts hidden, and I restock items in my purse and work bag like tampons, Kleenex, chapstick, etc.
By applying this productive weekend routine doing these things on the weekend, it allows me to run on autopilot from time to time during the weekdays. Lunches are taken care of, I already know what I’m making every night for dinner, and little things like forgetting to fill my car up with gas, running out of toilet paper, or last-minute appointments won’t cause unnecessary chaos.
