Are you wondering what you need to prepare for the fall now that it’s coming? Fall is my second fav season (summer’s my first). I love the baked goods, comfort food, leaves changing colour, decor, and pumpkin spice lattes… yes, I’m THAT basic B!tch.
September/October is then I start to put away the flip-flops and take out the winter gear. Living in the Maritimes in Canada, we never know how quickly the winter weather will come. Some years it starts in January, and other years it starts in September. It’s unpredictable and you learn quickly how to prepare for the inevitable.
How I prepare for the Fall:
Bath and Body Works Shop:
How I LOVE Bath and Body Works!!! Every season I stock up here, but fall scents are my fav scents. I stock up on 3 wick candles, single candles, hand sanitizer, soap, and wall flowers. To hear more about my fav scents and items from Bath and Body Works, click here.
Take Out Blankets:
I have a slight blanket addiction. I put them away in the summer and am soooo happy to pull them back out again in the fall. They are staples in my house! I have a beautiful arm knit blanket that I keep on one of my couches, I have a ladder rack full of throw-on blankets, and of course my fav “I’m sick” heated blanket.
Prepare for Up-Coming Storms:
I stock up my storm kits as I know hurricanes, windstorms, and snowstorms are about to head my way. For more information on my storm kits click here.
Fill Up Oil Tank:
After 3 months of not paying for the oil, it’s time to get back to reality. I fill up my tank and hope I can go the next month without running out.
Decorate the Front Door Entryway:
Pull out the cute wooden sign a local crafter made for me (#buylocal) and purchase a bunch of cute plants from the nursery nearby to create an absolutely adorable front door presence. Don’t forget to add a cute welcome mat and eventually pumpkins that turn into jack-o-lanterns.
Pull Out The Fall Decor:
I completely change out my coffee table and dining room table decor to add my fall decor items. My husband hates this, but he loves me, so it evens out in the end lol. You can read about my tips for decorating for Fall here.
Pull Out Fall Clothes:
This one’s tricky as we’re not ready to put away our flip-flops, but we need to pull out the jean jackets, rain jackets, rain boots, etc. Heavy sweaters are still put away! Don’t you dare bring those bad boys out yet. If you put away your flannel gear though, it’s safe to bring them back out.
Purchase Stuff For Baking/Comfort Food:
I love to bake and cook. I do not do either from June – August. Comes September I start back up though. Chocolate Chip Cookies, Oatmeal Cookies, Marry Me Cookies, Blueberry Muffins, and Morning Glory Muffins are my jam! I love making batches of these up on the weekend and having everyone eat them all weekend long. I have also really missed roast beef dinners, lasagna, soups, chilli, and casseroles for dinner. BBQ dinners are a vibe, but my heart is with the comfort food. Which is good considering I eat them 9 out of 12 months a year.
Check On Your Slippers and House Coats:
This sounds silly but legit… check on your slippers and house coats. Don’t act like the next 9 months you’re not gonna be living in these. House Coats last so long that I’m still rocking the house coat someone bought me when I gave birth to my 14-year-old son. I won’t part with this bad boy till I have no choice. It’s the memories for me. Slippers though I replace regularly. I love Kirkland’s Slippers from Costco. I get 2-3 years out of them and they’re super comfy.
Yardwork:
Rake your leaves, and protect your plants. You should know the drill by now.
Stock Up On Bath Bombs:
I take baths regularly for self-care in the fall and winter so I stock up on bath bombs and bubble bars from Lush.
Grab a Pumpkin Spice Latte:
Grab a pumpkin spice latte, pumpkin flavoured scone, or whatever fall flavour item that appeals to you. Be a basic B!tch, it’s fun over here!
