Mother’s Day is around the corner! You don’t need to break the bank to make this day memorable and enjoyable for all the beautiful moms in your life!
Ideas For Your Mom
I live on the other side of the country so it’s impossible for me to spend the day with my mom. When I lived in the same province of her these were some of the ideas we would do:
- Go out or have her over for brunch
- Take her for a pedicure or massage
- Visit with a couple of coffees and a nice walk
Really moms just want to spend time with their kids! You could go all out or just visit and put a puzzle together with them.
Now that I live super far away though I send her flowers and a sweet card. I also make sure to call her and talk so she gets some time with me.
Ideas For Your Young Kids
When my kids were young I would take them to the grocery store to pick out some ingredients for breakfast and a cake or cupcakes. In the morning they would surprise me with the gifts they made me in school and then we would make breakfast together.
As my kids got a bit older we developed a weird tradition. My kids had saved a bit of their allowance and wanted to take me out for breakfast. Super sweet, right? however, they were like 5 and 9 so they thought $15 was a ton of money. So what I did to help make this happen for them was found coupons for McDonald’s so they could pay for it. To this day my daughter (now 19) takes me to McDonalds every Mother’s Day as it’s tradition.
Again, it doesn’t have to break the bank. Little ones are just excited to celebrate you. You can even take them to the Dollar Store and let them decorate the kitchen table with a tablecloth and help them blow up balloons.
Ideas For Your Older Kids
Now that my kids are 15 and 19, we can do more “grown-up” things. As I mentioned before my daughter still does the McDonalds thing with me, but with my son we also do something fun. For me it’s really about the time spent with my kids.
Ideas for Older kids are:
- Do an activity like mini golf, going to the movies, go-carting, going for a hike, etc.
- Have a brunch where everyone brings something to contribute
- Have a dinner at a restaurant or a home cooked meal. My preference would 100% be a BBQ
