My home decor was driving me insane. My husband and I have very different tastes in decor. He loves plain white and no clutter, while I prefer some colour and a few decor items to make it feel like a home. This was a fight I had somehow lost along the way.
I decided I was done living in a museum and wanted to get my home back, starting with the living room!
Step 1
Step 1 of operation home decor was to order everything off of amazon and hide the boxes. This was probably the most stressful and tricky stage.
Step 2
Step 2 of operation home decor was to slowly bring items into the living room, completely undetected! This part requires strategy, but is super easy!
Side note: I was perfectly fine with our couches. I’m not crazy about the coffee and side table, but ill deal with that another day.

Operation Home Decor
Day 1: I started with a couple of notebooks and random candles on my coffee table. The trick here is to keep the randomness, and even a bit of a mess, so the new decor goes unnoticed. I started slowly with a book, I specifically chose from my collection to be decor for the coffee table.
Day 2: I was busy setting other decor traps up (Read about that here).
Day 3: Added 1 candle holder placed close to my lamp on the side table. I made sure it was close to the lamp in hopes it would make it less noticeable.
Day 4: Added a second book to the bottom of my coffee table, for decor. Slow and steady….
Day 5: Other decor traps
Day 6: I got brave! I moved some clutter from the bottom of the coffee table to the top and replaced it with a cute circular tray. I also added a second candle holder close to the lamp on my side table.
Day 7: I put the tissue box into a tissue box holder on my side table.
Day 8: I strategically moved the candles from the top of the coffee table to the bottom, into the circular tray. I also added my purse to where the candles were to prevent him from noticing an empty spot. Then I added an adorable coaster set to the bottom of the coffee table.
Day 9: Switched a candle with the cutest pineapple decoration into my circular tray on the coffee table. I also added candles to the candle holders on my side table and moved them a bit farther from the lamp.
Day 10: Swapped out a candle in the circular tray with matches!
Day 11: Other decor traps
Day 12: On day 12 I was getting pretty brave! I put this gorgeous square marble tray on the top of my coffee table and brought back the candles to put inside it. I swear I didn’t breathe when my husband got home until he walked past it, completely unaware. Also, moved the candle holders on the side table even further from the lamp. This was a crazy and wild day for me!
Day 13: A third book was added to the bottom of the coffee table!
Day 14: Other decor traps
Day 15: Flowers were placed onto the square marble tray and I replaced the last of the clutter on the top, with a book!
Day 16: I was getting too brave, so I had to settle down. I added a candle lighter to the books on the bottom shelf of my coffee table
Day 17: I added another book to the top of the coffee table
Day 18: I added the last book to the top of the coffee table
